You know what's frustrating? Being told that I'm a bully by my own mom.

We were watching Jesus Camp, right. And my parents (at least my mom) thought that it was indeed a horrible thing; however something about creationism popped up and my parents thought that it should be taught in school along with evolution. I tried to calmly explain that creationism has absolutely no basis in fact and is not science at all. My dad said that science isn't all based on fact and that "a lot of it is still just theory". By this point I got pretty irritated since I always knew my dad to know science. I'll admit that I did raise my voice a little at this point, trying to explain that a theory in science was as close to fact as you can get. But then my parents played the "oh it's just your opinion" card and my mom accused me of being a bully.

Fucking hell.

I've decided to quit Horizons for now; at least until I finish this last year of school. If you happen to read this though and also happen to play Horizons, stay far away from 'Valiturus'. He is a self-centered ass who pretends to give a shit about your character's story. And while he is an okay person out of character, the way he role plays makes it clear that he really is self-centered. For example, in the community forums, he invites more people to come to the gatherings held every other Sunday, BUT:

"Once upon a time, in one of the stories I told to you there was a group of four. T'was these four individuals whom would forever be remembered for their heroism when nobody else would stand. Through the many trials they faced they vanquished mighty foes and faced impossible odds. Until only one remained. He of the Shadowdawn remained with all trials done to record the great and heroic story and to tell it for generations to come. It was I who still remain and tell the great heroic and tragic story of that day."

He turns it into an ego-stroking asspattery. In the end it's always about him. It makes me speculate on how much of a nobody he must be in real life that he has to make himself special in a game.

This is awesome, albeit old. Known as the Demikhov experiments, the surgery involved attaching a puppy's head to a fully grown dog. The experiment, aimed at finding ways of replacing portions of the human body lost through injury or disease, was pronounced Russia's "most successful".

And yet, some people are too ignorant to understand this. "OMG POOR DOGS HOW THE HELL IS THIS SUPPOSED TO HELP HUMANS", etc. This is extremely irritating to me because without experiments on animals such as those dogs, people would never have been able to receive lung or heart transplants. Furthermore animals are used to help detect diseases in humans to this day and are used to develop vaccines. Without them, we wouldn't live to see the age of fifty, if even that.

I know some would argue that "we shouldn't mess with nature", "we weren't meant to live that long", etc. Those people forget that we are part of nature also; we are animals. They also must not care very much about how the world works. If we were to continue our ignorance, it is likely people would have kept the belief that demons caused illness.. and some still do, in places where science isn't so well-developed. Even in the U.S, instead of real treatment, exorcisms are sometimes still done which in the end is a waste of time and can potentially kill the person.

Through the curiosity of people, we now know that mental illness and seizures are not caused by demons, but by malfunctions of the body itself, and which can be treated accordingly with medicines and vaccines.

What The Holidays Mean to You

For you, the holidays are about generosity. You give as much as you possibly can to friends, family, and charity.

You celebrate the holidays in a offbeat style. You believe the holidays are for doing whatever you feel like - and some of your "traditions" are pretty wacky.

During the holidays, you like to feel cozy and comfortable. You're happy to stay inside with a roaring fire and a warm drink.

You think the holidays should be comforting and relaxing. You don't like the holiday rush... you just like the simple pleasure of the holidays.

Your favorite holiday memories strongly evoke your senses. You are vividly aware of all the tastes, smells, and sounds of the holidays.
What Do the Holidays Mean to You?

I am getting increasingly frustrated with my dad and other people who are gullible. A few days ago, I've noticed my dad got fluorescent light bulbs for the bathroom. I asked him if he finally figured out global warming was real, and he said that global warming was real but "it's not man-made". He kept trying to bring the Ice Age thing up, and at that point I just gave up. If global warming is natural, then how the hell does he think fluorescent bulbs are going to help reduce it in any way in the first place? Wouldn't the warming just go down by itself? Besides bringing up the Ice Age as if I was stupid, he also said that "not all scientists are in it for evidence, but for money". Uh, right.. so there is this huge conspiracy where most scientists say that man-made global warming is occurring but they're saying it for the money? What the fuck? He also stated that "the majority doesn't always mean it's right." I told my dad that if he thinks he is smarter than these scientists then he should just write a peer reviewed report, and then he'd get payed loads and maybe even win the Nobel Prize or something. He said that people already have tried. Just laughable.. of course people have tried proving that global warming isn't caused by humans, but if they were right, articles would be everywhere on it. It would be headline news. But it isn't. My dad isn't even a scientist (but claims to know how the scientific method works when he obviously doesn't), doesn't even do any tests himself. All he does is read articles by quack "scientists" and takes them at face value. And he has the nerve to tell me to not believe everything I read?

---------

I thought I'd clear up something to anyone who happens to read this.

It probably seems like I really, really hate my dad or am ungrateful, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I don't always engage him in arguments and when I do, it isn't to force him to believe (or not believe) in anything, as much as I'd like that. It's more like debate practice for me - practice in not losing my sanity in trying to talk reason with a theist (and he knows this).
