For some bizarre reason my dad thinks scientists and in particular, climatologists, have an agenda. He says that the government or whatever pays them to say something, like for example, humans are the cause of the current global warming. Like I've said so many other times in this blog, for someone who claims he knows how the scientific method works, it is painfully obvious that he doesn't. Or maybe he thinks they are just guidelines, who the hell knows. He also says that lots of scientists disagree with the human-caused global warming thing and I keep telling him, if they presented sufficient evidence that it is natural, it would be a breakthrough and distribution of Nobel Prizes would be in order. So far however, that hasn't been the case. Science is about finding things out, it is a process. A scientist may not like what he discovers but that doesn't matter; what does is the evidence.Labels: Denialism, Global Warming, Rants, science

There was nothing on TV today, so my mom suggested we watch "Gods must be Crazy" On Demand. She said it's funny, and it's about this tribe in Africa that come across a Coca Cola bottle that fell from a plane and don't know what to make of it. I thought it could be funny, so I watched it - the first 20 minutes or so anyway.The tribe in the film were peaceful and happy, the narrator said. No crime nor violence were among them. It then changed scenes to 600 miles to the south to the hectic, stressful world of everyday, "civilized" living and then back to the African tribe. Some slob throws a Coca Cola bottle out of a plane and the tribe below thinks it must have been a gift from the gods. Every day they find more and more uses for it, until eventually its use became so valuable it started fights, jealousy, and arguments among the once-peaceful tribe. Some time after that an elder says he will go to the end of the world and throw the thing off the edge. Change scenes once again to city life and robbers come rushing in a building with guns, presumably out of greed. It was then that I said I wouldn't watch anymore because it wasn't funny at all, but depressing.
It made me think that our world today, the environment that we created for ourselves, has caused us to become greedy shits that couldn't care less about anyone else. It's all about money, jobs, and more money. Our basic instinct of family life and cooperation is still there, but not as much as it should or could be. We get people who say they hate people. Yet our ancestors depended on each other, they actually valued company and depended on one another to live. But now we don't need that. When we get old enough to move out we do and hate or even dread seeing family after that. It makes me think that this world we created for ourselves is the cause of most crime in the world and besides that, we have created the delusion that other living creatures don't matter. There is no harmony and we contribute absolutely nothing useful to the earth.
And yet through all this, through all of our knowledge we have gained, most people still believe in some form of god and are ignorant and arrogant enough to think that they alone matter whilst creating wars OVER THE SAME IMAGINARY BEING. When there's a funeral, what really matters apparently is a god and not the actual person who has died.
It's enough to make me ashamed of being human. When will people ever figure out that we're all in this together? We all live, we all die, and we all live on the same planet.
We have evolved great intelligence but at the same time great ignorance and stupidity.

Why are models so stupid? I was watching Janice Dickinson's Modeling Agency, because I would like to maybe try and pursue a modeling career if I can and I like to see all that's involved etc. Well, this one episode had PETA come visit the agency for a "no fur" picket thing. They even showed one of their good ol' propaganda films that PETA themselves probably staged. Right off the bat, all the models supported PETA and bought into it. Let's review what PETA really does:1.)PETA is against animals as pets, including cats and even dogs, which could not live on their own for very long
2.) They are against any animal testing whatsoever even if it were to cure AIDS
3.) They are involved in many deaths of animals in shelters
4.) They stage most, if not all animal cruelty propaganda films
5.) Fur traders who hope to profit from anything take very good care of the animals and humanely euthanise them before fur collecting/skinning (whichever way you prefer to put it) begins. Of course there are poachers who will kill wild animals for their fur, but this is largely illegal, especially in endangered species. Otherwise it is regulated so as to not damage the population.
I understand that those models care for animals, which I admire, but for fuck's sakes at least know what exactly it is you're protesting against.
Onto another topic - I haven't been feeling too well lately. I feel pretty anxious, have a somewhat shortness of breath at night, and am getting heart palpitations and it's been like that for about a day or two now. I've looked it up and apparently palpitations are usually nothing serious unless of course you black out during one. I have a few "theories" as to why I'm feeling like this and one is that maybe I haven't been eating enough. I've got addicted to Smart Start cereal and lately that's been the only thing I really eat. The second is anxiety from the dentist. Even though I already went to the appointment, for some reason the anxiety could've just kept going. Third is that maybe I got the flu, possibly from the dentist's office. I think my mom is going to make a doctor's appointment for me soon to make sure whatever I'm feeling isn't serious.
Oh yeah and I watched an all-day marathon of Doctor Who, the ones without that annoying new guy. Being nerdy ftw. 2 Comments - Post/view comments
