I didn't go to the animal shelter today. My mom has been trying to contact my friend all week (she has no answering machine). That was one of the reasons I refused to go. The other was that I was extremely tired. We had to leave by 10 in the morning and I couldn't sleep very well lastnight.I keep thinking how amazingly stupid it is to take religion literally. Lastnight I had this debate sort of thing with my dad on Christianity. He was browsing through the channels on tv and there was some show on the history channel called "Jesus' Miracles" or something similar. He knows I think the whole Jesus thing to be incredibly stupid, so he says jokingly "there you go!" I said that Jesus had no miracles. He responds by saying my name all loud. I go onto saying that things a long time ago were exhagerated and shouldn't be taken so literally. He asked me how I thought the world came to being, then, and I replied "evolution". He said "NOOOOOO", and I asked him, "why not?" He asked me how I thought the human brain has evolved to being so smart. He just answered his own damn question there; through evolution, yet he wouldn't believe it. I told him that there is so much evidence out there that evolution has, and still is, taking place. He shook his head, kept looking at me like some little kid that thought he knew everything, and said "Noooooo". He then asked me, "how do you think people from different times and different places wrote the same thing?" Simple. The bible has been rewritten so many times, or translated so many times, and he didn't believe me. I told him of the horridness contained in the Old Testiment and how it was rewritten to sound more "good". He didn't buy that either. Apparently, he hasn't read his own bible. I kept telling him to learn history again, and he said he had. Yeah, "history" you learned in your private school.
I went on to say that believing in the bible and taking it literally was like taking Greek mythology literally. Again he said "noooo", and went on with, "Greek mythology is just that, mythology. The bible isn't called 'Mythology bible'". Seriously, what the fuck? This, my friends, is ignorance at its best (or worst).
People that long ago DID believe there were gods, as that was the only explaination for how things worked back then. Therefore, believing some god made the world is literally "Sooooo last century".
However, I still question whether this Jesus was purely a mythological creation or based on an actual person. There is a saying that all myths have some basis in fact. This Jesus could have taught morals that should be practiced in human nature, or perhaps he was some poser looking for fame. Either way, I highly doubt his "miracles" are to be taken literally. Since the bible has been translated numerous times, some of the meaning of what was written, has been lost. Like I stated earlier, it is a bit extreme to think that a god created the universe. This was more likely an attempt from ancient peoples in trying to explain how the world started than anything else.
Some people are brainwashed for life and cannot think for themselves. Others break free from this. What would you rather have, a world with blind, ignorant fools, or people who can actually use their brain? 0 Comments - Post/view comments
